5 Day Intensive PPL(A) Ground School Course

A brief description of the PPL(A) theory exams:

  • There are a total of 9 theoretical knowledge exams that have to be passed as a requirement to obtain the PPL(A) license.
  • From the date that you sit the first e-exam, you then have 18 months to complete the other eight exams.
  • All exams and flight training must be completed before the skills test is attempted.

The exams are as follows:

  • Air Law

This is normally the first exam that your ATO will require to sit. We at Academy Aviation require this exam to be passed before we allow any students to fly solo.

  • Communications

An important exam to pass and the knowledge you acquire to pass this will be of paramount importance for your flying experience.

  • Human Performance and Limitations

An interesting subject that not only investigates the working of the human body but also investigates the workings of the mind and the relationship between people and the environment they are in.

  • Meteorology

Understanding of how our weather is created and affects aviation is vital for us to understand as pilots. Ranging from theoretical knowledge such as the creation of wind, to the practical requirement to read weather forecasts and charts.

  • Principles of Flight

A subject that will encompass the aerodynamic aspects of flight and many more interesting theories.

  • Aircraft General Knowledge

This will teach you how the aircraft and its systems work.

  • Operational Procedures

A subject that allows you as a pilot to understand the limitations that can be placed upon the aircraft. Safety is a key feature in this subject and you will learn about such matters as ‘safety factors.’

  • Navigation

Even with modern technology, navigation is a subject that must be understood properly. The use of charts is widespread and the ability to understand, read, and use these charts is highly valued in aviation.

  • Flight Performance and Planning

A subject that is involved but also one which is of practical use to pilots. Understanding how the aircraft performs in different conditions and how we plan to load and use the aircraft.

Once all 9 exams are complete you have 24 months to complete the skills test.
